So you've made the move and here you are living the high life in sunny Spain! The sun and the sea are so beautiful, but remember they can take a toll on your hair.
The ultra-violet rays are much stronger here and lifestyles are such that increased exposure is almost unavoidable. A day on the beach without extra care for your hair can do a lot of damage.
Chlorinated and salt water actively destroy the hair's structure causing chemically processed hair to deteriorate dramatically and can damage your hair's cuticle, resulting in dry, drab, split, brittle or frizzy hair and ends. The elements affect treated and untreated hair differently. Using anti-chlorine/salt shampoos which remove the impurities and restore the hair's natural PH value is the best way to combat the effects of pool and sea water. These products clarify, restore and restructure with vitamins, botanicals and rich nut oils.
We all use skin protections in the sun but how many of us extend that protection to our hair? Applying a protectant to the hair prior to exposure to the sun makes sense. Sprays and styling gels with protective oils and UV filters are a sure bet before you hit the beach.
Ask your hair specialist to make a product recommendation to suit your hair type.
Wear a hat or a scarf.
Don't blow dry your hair in summer, but if you must, use a leave-in conditioner.
On weekends or at night dab a good deep conditioner or jojoba oil on the ends and frizziest parts of your hair.
Do deep conditioning wraps. If you can do one overnight, it will work wonders to restore the absent moisture that adds to the frizzies.
If you find yourself at the beach without a hat or hair SPF, use sunscreen made for your skin. When you get home wash it out with a deep-cleansing shampoo. It may not be the best solution in the world, but it could very likely save your hair from sun damage.
Hair loss can be devastating for both men and women. Baldness in men may have less social repercussions, but it can make men look older and affect their quality of lives.
Hair loss in women tends to manifest itself as thinning all over the head, while many men experience the "horse shoe effect," losing hair on the top only. Hair loss tends to run in families so in many cases you will have advance warning.
The quality of hair transplants has greatly improved, achieving natural looking results by using a micro grafting technique. Your own hair, same colour, same texture, is grafted into the areas where hair loss has occurred. This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic as an out patient, not requiring an overnight stay.
