UV rays carry more energy than visible light rays and therefore pose a greater risk to the eye. UV rays come in two types: UVA and UVB. Both types may cause, or speed up the process of several vision damaging diseases. UVB rays have also been linked to skin cancer. UVB and UVA ray damage occurs over time and is irreversible.
Blue light is visible light and can be found in intense glares, such as light reflected off snow or water. Some experts feel that routine exposure to blue light degrades the retina and heightens the risk of blindness for people over sixty.
The solution is simple. Wear quality sunglasses that block out these harmful rays. The European standard has four ratings: 0 for insufficient UV protection; 1 for sufficient UV protection; 2 for good UV protection; 3 for full UV protection. Go for the gold and opt for the best quality!
